Basic Reproductive Rate

The number of infections produced, on average, by one infectious case in the early stages of an epidemic when herd immunity is low or zero and virtually all individuals in the exposed population are susceptible. A term used in infectious disease epidemiology; the word “rate” is a misnomer because there is no precise or consistent time element.
