antimicrobial resistance

The ability of a microbe (germ) to resist the effects of a drug. Antimicrobial-resistant germs are not killed by the drugs that are typically used against them and may continue to multiply. Antimicrobial resistance includes antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral resistance.
